What we check before a business is Featured
Featured is paid placement at the top of a town page. Before a Featured listing goes live, the business shows us a few things, and the dates we checked go on their page.
What we check
- License. An active Massachusetts license, for trades where the state requires one: plumbing, heating and cooling, electrical, and barbershops. We look it up on the state's website.
- Insurance. A current certificate of insurance, for trades that work inside people's homes.
- No suspended or revoked license.
- Every year. We check again every year, and any time we get a complaint. A business that no longer passes loses its Featured spot and gets the unused months refunded.
What you'll see on their page
Lines like "License #12345 · checked Oct 2026" with a link to look it up yourself, and "Insurance on file · checked Oct 2026." Those are facts about what we saw on that date. They aren't a promise about anyone's work.
Free listings
Free listings come from public sources like Google Business Profiles, and we don't check them. A Claimed badge means the owner confirmed their details with us.
Before you hire anyone
Look up the license yourself on mass.gov, ask for proof of insurance, and get a written quote. The Town Pros is a directory: your agreement is with the business you hire.
Up to 3 businesses can be Featured for each trade in each town, and their order changes on every visit.
